Tom Canaday (below) posted on Facebook: People so admire celebrities, and when they pass it can be an opportune moment for preaching the Truth... In 1980 John Bonham, (top left) at age 32, was greatly admired and sorely envied on college campuses. He was considered the greatest drummer and his band, Led Zepplin, was famous for unabashed hedonism. They had it ALL, or so many of us thought. Then Bonham died so young, so stupidly,...Bro. Jed boldly stepped into that spiritual void and drove the Gospel right home. Just a week (34 years ago) after Bonham died, I saw Jed Smock preach on campus at Univ. of Michigan. Jed mimicked Bonham drinking the 40 shots, counting them off deliberately and after each one acting as if he had just received a lash. I was a scoffer at the time, but I was mightily impressed (and entertained) by Jed's performance. Much later when I found myself convicted of my own similar sins, I remembered Jed having told me the truth decades before. I'm grateful that the seeds of truth Jed planted that day flowered before my season ended.
Sixteen students showed up at a Friday night Bible study that Bro. Dean was having; most, if not all of whom, are the Hill pranksters, who promoted the Jed Fest and have been disrupting the preaching all week. After most left, Dean was able to minister to a girl with whom he prayed for salvation. She had been fasting for three days seeking the Lord. So the week began on Sunday with this young lady accompanying Dean for our visit in the desert with our dear friends, Kim and Nancy Jones and ended Friday evening with her making a profession of faith.
Jackie M. Olson posted on FB today, “My life was changed 35 years ago due to Bro. Jed preaching the gospel on the Tucson U of A Campus.... Thank you Jesus. In 1978 a friend of ours from Montreal Canada was walking across the Tucson University of Arizona campus. You were there preaching and the The Door church was there as well praying with people.. This friend of ours had a dramatic conversion that day....he repented and received Jesus into his heart. He came back to Canada 3 months later and witnessed to me and my boyfriend at the time. He was so full of the Holy Spirit that we could not deny the truth and power of the gospel. I was 16 and hopelessly lost. Jesus forgave us and set us free.... Shortly after this we were married and planted ourselves in the house of God, ...We have been blessed to raise 5 beautiful kids & see 8 lovely grand children enter our lives. I remember that day when the the young Canadian was converted. Bro. Jed
From Jackie's daughter: "And the next generation thanks you too! Jackie is my mother and because of her conversion my siblings and I were raised to know Jesus and his forgiveness. My life has been wonderful because I knew the amazing truth of Gods love from childhood. I'll be forever grateful."
