You must not be called 'Teacher,' because you are all equal and have only one Teacher.

Nor should you be called 'Leader,' because your one and only leader is the Messiah.

Whoever makes himself great will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be made great.

Jesus sat down, called the twelve disciples, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must place himself last of all and be the servant of all."

This, however, is not the way it is among you. If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest;

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people."

Jesus noticed how some of the guests were choosing the best places, so he told this parable to all of them:

and your host, who invited both of you, would have to come and say to you, 'Let him have this place.' Then you would be embarrassed and have to sit in the lowest place.

For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great."

I tell you," said Jesus, "the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great."

Jesus said, "My kingdom does not belong to this world; if my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. No, my kingdom does not belong here!"

We are not trying to dictate to you what you must believe; we know that you stand firm in the faith. Instead, we are working with you for your own happiness.

The weapons we use in our fight are not the world's weapons but God's powerful weapons, which we use to destroy strongholds. We destroy false arguments;

And after you have proved your complete loyalty, we will be ready to punish any act of disloyalty.

For I am not ashamed, even if I have boasted somewhat too much about the authority that the Lord has given us---authority to build you up, not to tear you down.

Someone will say, "Paul's letters are severe and strong, but when he is with us in person, he is weak, and his words are nothing!"

Do not try to rule over those who have been put in your care, but be examples to the flock.

I wrote a short letter to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to be their leader, will not pay any attention to what I say.

When I come, then, I will bring up everything he has done: the terrible things he says about us and the lies he tells! But that is not enough for him; he will not receive the Christians when they come, and even stops those who want to receive them and tries to drive them out of the church!

Then I saw another beast, which came up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb's horns, and it spoke like a dragon.

This second beast performed great miracles; it made fire come down out of heaven to earth in the sight of everyone.

The second beast was allowed to breathe life into the image of the first beast, so that the image could talk and put to death all those who would not worship it.

No one could buy or sell without this mark, that is, the beast's name or the number that stands for the name.

And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God's people and the blood of those who were killed because they had been loyal to Jesus. When I saw her, I was completely amazed.

Then they will answer him, 'When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and we would not help you?'

There were many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee and helped him.

Jerusalem, your immoral actions have defiled you. Although I tried to purify you, you remained defiled. You will not be pure again until you have felt the full force of my anger.

When they arrived at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues. They had John Mark with them to help in the work.

May the Lord grant him his mercy on that Day! And you know very well how much he did for me in Ephesus.

I would like to keep him here with me, while I am in prison for the gospel's sake, so that he could help me in your place.

What are the angels, then? They are spirits who serve God and are sent by him to help those who are to receive salvation.

Those who preach must preach God's messages; those who serve must serve with the strength that God gives them, so that in all things praise may be given to God through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
