What, then, can we boast about? Nothing! And what is the reason for this? Is it that we obey the Law? No, but that we believe.

If the Son sets you free, then you will be really free.

But if Christ lives in you, the Spirit is life for you because you have been put right with God, even though your bodies are going to die because of sin.

If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you.

Jesus answered, "If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water."

but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life."

What gives life is God's Spirit; human power is of no use at all. The words I have spoken to you bring God's life-giving Spirit.

whoever believes in me should drink. As the scripture says, 'Streams of life-giving water will pour out from his side.' "

Jesus said this about the Spirit, which those who believed in him were going to receive. At that time the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not been raised to glory.

For the scripture says, "The first man, Adam, was created a living being"; but the last Adam is the life-giving Spirit.

it is he who made us capable of serving the new covenant, which consists not of a written law but of the Spirit. The written law brings death, but the Spirit gives life.

After three and a half days a life-giving breath came from God and entered them, and they stood up; and all who saw them were terrified.

The angel also showed me the river of the water of life, sparkling like crystal, and coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb

You were set free from sin and became the slaves of righteousness.

But now you have been set free from sin and are the slaves of God. Your gain is a life fully dedicated to him, and the result is eternal life.

Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Now, "the Lord" in this passage is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is freedom.

So far as the Law is concerned, however, I am dead---killed by the Law itself---in order that I might live for God. I have been put to death with Christ on his cross,

Freedom is what we have---Christ has set us free! Stand, then, as free people, and do not allow yourselves to become slaves again.

So then, just as sin ruled by means of death, so also God's grace rules by means of righteousness, leading us to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So I find that this law is at work: when I want to do what is good, what is evil is the only choice I have.

What an unhappy man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is taking me to death?

Thanks be to God, who does this through our Lord Jesus Christ! This, then, is my condition: on my own I can serve God's law only with my mind, while my human nature serves the law of sin.
