The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I keep telling it that its ways are bad.

"If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first.

Remember what I told you: 'Slaves are not greater than their master.' If people persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too.

I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's heel."

The righteous hate the wicked, and the wicked hate the righteous.

I lost patience with three other shepherds, who hated me, and I got rid of them all in a single month.

"No pupil is greater than his teacher; no slave is greater than his master.

So a pupil should be satisfied to become like his teacher, and a slave like his master. If the head of the family is called Beelzebul, the members of the family will be called even worse names!

And now the heathen are surprised when you do not join them in the same wild and reckless living, and so they insult you.

But they will have to give an account of themselves to God, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

We must not be like Cain; he belonged to the Evil One and murdered his own brother Abel. Why did Cain murder him? Because the things he himself did were wrong, and the things his brother did were right.

Just as I do not belong to the world, they do not belong to the world.

Jesus answered, "You belong to this world here below, but I come from above. You are from this world, but I am not from this world.

Those false prophets speak about matters of the world, and the world listens to them because they belong to the world.

But we belong to God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever does not belong to God does not listen to us. This, then, is how we can tell the difference between the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

We know that we belong to God even though the whole world is under the rule of the Evil One.

We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we know the true God. We live in union with the true God---in union with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and this is eternal life.
