It isn't right! We go just as we came. We labor, trying to catch the wind, and what do we get?

My life has been useless, but in it I have seen everything. Some good people may die while others live on, even though they are evil.

"There is something else. You remember what Joab did to me by killing the two commanders of Israel's armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. You remember how he murdered them in time of peace as revenge for deaths they had caused in time of war. He killed innocent men, and now I bear the responsibility for what he did, and I suffer the consequences.

"But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai from Gilead and take care of them, because they were kind to me when I was fleeing from your brother Absalom.

But you must not let him go unpunished. You know what to do, and you must see to it that he is put to death."

(There was no one else who had devoted himself so completely to doing wrong in the LORD's sight as Ahab---all at the urging of his wife Jezebel.

By chance, however, a Syrian soldier shot an arrow which struck King Ahab between the joints of his armor. "I'm wounded!" he cried out to his chariot driver. "Turn around and pull out of the battle!"

While the battle raged on, King Ahab remained propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians. The blood from his wound ran down and covered the bottom of the chariot, and at evening he died.

Trouble follows sinners everywhere, but righteous people will be rewarded with good things.

Babies will no longer die in infancy, and all people will live out their life span. Those who live to be a hundred will be considered young. To die before that would be a sign that I had punished them.

But you have a hard and stubborn heart, and so you are making your own punishment even greater on the Day when God's anger and righteous judgments will be revealed.

And the same is true of what God has done. He wanted to show his anger and to make his power known. But he was very patient in enduring those who were the objects of his anger, who were doomed to destruction.

And so the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials and how to keep the wicked under punishment for the Day of Judgment,

Avoid both extremes. If you have reverence for God, you will be successful anyway.

but the humble will possess the land and enjoy prosperity and peace.

The LORD takes care of those who obey him, and the land will be theirs forever.

They will not suffer when times are bad; they will have enough in time of famine.

Praise the LORD! Happy is the person who honors the LORD, who takes pleasure in obeying his commands.

He will bless everyone who honors him, the great and the small alike.

Inexperienced people die because they reject wisdom. Stupid people are destroyed by their own lack of concern.

But whoever listens to me will have security. He will be safe, with no reason to be afraid."

The righteous will be happy, and things will go well for them. They will get to enjoy what they have worked for.

But evil people are doomed; what they have done to others will now be done to them.

And so I tell you that those who worship and obey me will have plenty to eat and drink, but you will be hungry and thirsty. They will be happy, but you will be disgraced.

They will sing for joy, but you will cry with a broken heart.

Even before they finish praying to me, I will answer their prayers.

Then the King will say to the people on his right, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world.

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Away from me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels!

I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of me.'

The King will reply, 'I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me.'

from one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honor him.

I know that everything God does will last forever. You can't add anything to it or take anything away from it. And one thing God does is to make us stand in awe of him.

tremble before him, all the earth! The earth is set firmly in place and cannot be moved.

Bow down before the Holy One when he appears; tremble before him, all the earth!
