about the day you stood in the presence of the LORD your God at Mount Sinai, when he said to me, 'Assemble the people. I want them to hear what I have to say, so that they will learn to obey me as long as they live and so that they will teach their children to do the same.'

"Now, people of Israel, listen to what the LORD your God demands of you: Worship the LORD and do all that he commands. Love him, serve him with all your heart,

and obey all his laws. I am giving them to you today for your benefit.

Have reverence for the LORD your God and worship only him. Be faithful to him and make your promises in his name alone.

Follow the LORD and honor him; obey him and keep his commands; worship him and be faithful to him.

"Don't hurt the boy or do anything to him," he said. "Now I know that you honor and obey God, because you have not kept back your only son from him."

Moses replied, "Don't be afraid; God has only come to test you and make you keep on obeying him, so that you will not sin."

God said to us humans, "To be wise, you must have reverence for the Lord. To understand, you must turn from evil."

The way to become wise is to honor the LORD; he gives sound judgment to all who obey his commands. He is to be praised forever.

Happy are those who obey the LORD, who live by his commands.

Be loyal and faithful, and God will forgive your sin. Obey the LORD and nothing evil will happen to you.

After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for.

I will show you whom to fear: fear God, who, after killing, has the authority to throw into hell. Believe me, he is the one you must fear!

You call him Father, when you pray to God, who judges all people by the same standard, according to what each one has done; so then, spend the rest of your lives here on earth in reverence for him.

Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.

I have chosen him in order that he may command his sons and his descendants to obey me and to do what is right and just. If they do, I will do everything for him that I have promised."

We will not keep them from our children; we will tell the next generation about the LORD's power and his great deeds and the wonderful things he has done.

so that the next generation might learn them and in turn should tell their children.

They will not be like their ancestors, a rebellious and disobedient people, whose trust in God was never firm and who did not remain faithful to him.

Obey all his laws that I have given you today, and all will go well with you and your descendants. You will continue to live in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to be yours forever."

" 'Respect your father and your mother, as I, the LORD your God, command you, so that all may go well with you and so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you.

Obey them all, so that everything will go well with you and so that you will continue to live in the land that you are going to occupy.

You may take the young birds, but you must let the mother bird go, so that you will live a long and prosperous life.

My child, don't forget what I teach you. Always remember what I tell you to do.

My teaching will give you a long and prosperous life.

Wisdom offers you long life, as well as wealth and honor.

As the scripture says, "If you want to enjoy life and wish to see good times, you must keep from speaking evil and stop telling lies.

You must turn away from evil and do good; you must strive for peace with all your heart.
