Just as he arrived at the gate of the town, a funeral procession was coming out. The dead man was the only son of a woman who was a widow, and a large crowd from the town was with her.

We answered, 'We have a father who is old and a younger brother, born to him in his old age. The boy's brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother's children still alive; his father loves him very much.'

and we answered that the boy could not leave his father; if he did, his father would die.

Before he had finished speaking, another servant came and said, "Your children were having a feast at the home of your oldest son,

when a storm swept in from the desert. It blew the house down and killed them all. I am the only one who escaped to tell you."

"I will fill the descendants of David and the other people of Jerusalem with the spirit of mercy and the spirit of prayer. They will look at the one whom they stabbed to death, and they will mourn for him like those who mourn for an only child. They will mourn bitterly, like those who have lost their first-born son.

We may be alive in the morning, but die unnoticed before evening comes.

You carry us away like a flood; we last no longer than a dream. We are like weeds that sprout in the morning,

We are destroyed by your anger; we are terrified by your fury.

As for us, our life is like grass. We grow and flourish like a wild flower;

then the wind blows on it, and it is gone--- no one sees it again.

How can anyone know what is best for us in this short, useless life of ours---a life that passes like a shadow? How can we know what will happen in the world after we die?

"Mortal man," he said, "with one blow I am going to take away the person you love most. You are not to complain or cry or shed any tears.

The LORD said, "Now, mortal man, I will take away from them the strong Temple that was their pride and joy, which they liked to look at and to visit. And I will take away their sons and daughters.

Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.

Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, the people are all around you and crowding in on you."

Then Jesus started off with him. So many people were going along with Jesus that they were crowding him from every side.
