After that they sat there and watched him.

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman officer met him and begged for help:

There was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, who was a captain in the Roman army regiment called "The Italian Regiment."

At once the commander took some officers and soldiers and rushed down to the crowd. When the people saw him with the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

Then Paul called one of the officers and said to him, "Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him."

Then the commander called two of his officers and said, "Get two hundred soldiers ready to go to Caesarea, together with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, and be ready to leave by nine o'clock tonight.

When it was decided that we should sail to Italy, they handed Paul and some other prisoners over to Julius, an officer in the Roman army regiment called "The Emperor's Regiment."

But the army officer wanted to save Paul, so he stopped them from doing this. Instead, he ordered everyone who could swim to jump overboard first and swim ashore;

The army officer who was standing there in front of the cross saw how Jesus had died. "This man was really the Son of God!" he said.

The army officer saw what had happened, and he praised God, saying, "Certainly he was a good man!"

All those who knew Jesus personally, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance to watch.

Once more the king sent an officer with fifty men. He went up the hill, fell on his knees in front of Elijah, and pleaded, "Man of God, be merciful to me and my men. Spare our lives!

The two other officers and their men were killed by fire from heaven; but please be merciful to me!"

When the people heard this, they were deeply troubled and said to Peter and the other apostles, "What shall we do, brothers?"

The jailer called for a light, rushed in, and fell trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas.

Then he led them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

At that very moment there was a violent earthquake; a tenth of the city was destroyed, and seven thousand people were killed. The rest of the people were terrified and praised the greatness of the God of heaven.

"You were going to tear down the Temple and build it back up in three days! Save yourself if you are God's Son! Come on down from the cross!"

He trusts in God and claims to be God's Son. Well, then, let us see if God wants to save him now!"

But Jesus kept quiet. Again the High Priest spoke to him, "In the name of the living God I now put you under oath: tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God."

They all said, "Are you, then, the Son of God?" He answered them, "You say that I am."

The crowd answered back, "We have a law that says he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God."

as to his divine holiness, he was shown with great power to be the Son of God by being raised from death.
