Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which they had built,

Let us go down and mix up their language so that they will not understand each other."

I must go down to find out whether or not the accusations which I have heard are true."

He said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly take care of you and lead you out of this land to the land he solemnly promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

He tore the sky open and came down with a dark cloud under his feet.

He covered himself with darkness; thick clouds, full of water, surrounded him.

Then the LORD thundered from the sky; and the voice of the Most High was heard.

The floor of the ocean was laid bare, and the foundations of the earth were uncovered, when you rebuked your enemies, LORD, and roared at them in anger.

"But now I will come," says the LORD, "because the needy are oppressed and the persecuted groan in pain. I will give them the security they long for."

Our ancestors put their trust in you; they trusted you, and you saved them.

They called to you and escaped from danger; they trusted you and were not disappointed.

Find out for yourself how good the LORD is. Happy are those who find safety with him.

When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them.

Why don't you tear the sky open and come down? The mountains would see you and shake with fear.

And no one has ever gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from heaven."

I have decided that I will bring them out of Egypt, where they are being treated cruelly, and will take them to a rich and fertile land---the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

The LORD solemnly promised your ancestors to give you the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. When he brings you into that rich and fertile land, you must celebrate this festival in the first month of every year.

Find out whether the land is good or bad and whether the people live in open towns or in fortified cities.

They told Moses, "We explored the land and found it to be rich and fertile; and here is some of its fruit.

and said to the people, "The land we explored is an excellent land.

If the LORD is pleased with us, he will take us there and give us that rich and fertile land.

Break camp and move on. Go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the surrounding regions---to the Jordan Valley, to the hill country and the lowlands, to the southern region, and to the Mediterranean coast. Go to the land of Canaan and on beyond the Lebanon Mountains as far as the great Euphrates River.

They brought us back some fruit they found there, and reported that the land which the LORD our God was giving us was very fertile.

The LORD your God is bringing you into a fertile land---a land that has rivers and springs, and underground streams gushing out into the valleys and hills;

There you will never go hungry or ever be in need. Its rocks have iron in them, and from its hills you can mine copper.

And you will live a long time in the rich and fertile land that the LORD promised to give your ancestors and their descendants.

but the land that you are about to enter is a land of mountains and valleys, a land watered by rain.

"So then, obey the commands that I have given you today; love the LORD your God and serve him with all your heart.

and grass for your livestock. You will have all the food you want.

If you do, the LORD will become angry with you. He will hold back the rain, and your ground will become too dry for crops to grow. Then you will soon die there, even though it is a good land that he is giving you.

Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.

Then you and your children will live a long time in the land that the LORD your God promised to give to your ancestors. You will live there as long as there is a sky above the earth.

Then he will drive out all those nations as you advance, and you will occupy the land belonging to nations greater and more powerful than you.

He brought us here and gave us this rich and fertile land.

Be grateful for the good things that the LORD your God has given you and your family; and let the Levites and the foreigners who live among you join in the celebration.

say to the LORD, 'None of the sacred tithe is left in my house; I have given it to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows, as you commanded me to do. I have not disobeyed or forgotten any of your commands concerning the tithe.

Look down from your holy place in heaven and bless your people Israel; bless also the rich and fertile land that you have given us, as you promised our ancestors.'

and write on them all these laws and teachings. When you have entered the rich and fertile land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you,

The LORD will give you many children, many cattle, and abundant crops in the land that he promised your ancestors to give you.

"You let them conquer nations and kingdoms, lands that bordered their own. They conquered the land of Heshbon, where Sihon ruled, and the land of Bashan, where Og was king.

They conquered the land of Canaan; you overcame the people living there. You gave your people the power to do as they pleased with the people and kings of Canaan.

I brought them into a fertile land, to enjoy its harvests and its other good things. But instead they ruined my land; they defiled the country I had given them.

Then I would keep the promise I made to their ancestors that I would give them the rich and fertile land which they now have." I said, "Yes, LORD."

You gave them this rich and fertile land, as you had promised their ancestors.

It was then that I promised to take them out of Egypt and lead them to a land I had chosen for them, a rich and fertile land, the finest land of all.

If you do, I, the LORD, will answer them when they cry out to me for help,

"If you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and require him to pay interest.

because it is the only covering he has to keep him warm. What else can he sleep in? When he cries out to me for help, I will answer him because I am merciful.

"Give me the offerings from your grain, your wine, and your olive oil when they are due. "Give me your first-born sons.

"You are my people, so you must not eat the meat of any animal that has been killed by wild animals; instead, give it to the dogs.

Obey the laws that I am giving you today. I will drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as you advance.

Then and there the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said, "I promise to give your descendants all this land from the border of Egypt to the Euphrates River,

the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

"The LORD your God will bring you into the land that you are going to occupy, and he will drive many nations out of it. As you advance, he will drive out seven nations larger and more powerful than you: the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

The victories of Israel became known to all the kings west of the Jordan---in the hills, in the foothills, and all along the coastal plain of the Mediterranean Sea as far north as Lebanon; these were the kings of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

You found that he was faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him. You promised to give him the land of the Canaanites, the land of the Hittites and the Amorites, the land of the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Girgashites, to be a land where his descendants would live. You kept your promise, because you are faithful.
