I know that you test everyone's heart and are pleased with people of integrity. In honesty and sincerity I have willingly given all this to you, and I have seen how your people who are gathered here have been happy to bring offerings to you.

His pleasure is not in strong horses, nor his delight in brave soldiers;

but he takes pleasure in those who honor him, in those who trust in his constant love.

The LORD hates people who use dishonest scales. He is happy with honest weights.

The LORD hates evil-minded people, but loves those who do right.

The LORD hates liars, but is pleased with those who keep their word.

The LORD is pleased when good people pray, but hates the sacrifices that the wicked bring him.

You have tired the LORD out with your talk. But you ask, "How have we tired him?" By saying, "The LORD Almighty thinks all evildoers are good; in fact he likes them." Or by asking, "Where is the God who is supposed to be just?"

Here, then, is my receipt for everything you have given me---and it has been more than enough! I have all I need now that Epaphroditus has brought me all your gifts. They are like a sweet-smelling offering to God, a sacrifice which is acceptable and pleasing to him.

Yet God knows every step I take; if he tests me, he will find me pure.

I always do what God commands; I follow his will, not my own desires.

I said, "I will be careful about what I do and will not let my tongue make me sin; I will not say anything while evil people are near."

They never do wrong; they walk in the LORD's ways.

How I hope that I shall be faithful in keeping your instructions!

And so I do my best always to have a clear conscience before God and people.

All these promises are made to us, my dear friends. So then, let us purify ourselves from everything that makes body or soul unclean, and let us be completely holy by living in awe of God.
