David said to Saul, "Your Majesty, no one should be afraid of this Philistine! I will go and fight him."

"Your Majesty," David said, "I take care of my father's sheep. Any time a lion or a bear carries off a lamb,

I have killed lions and bears, and I will do the same to this heathen Philistine, who has defied the army of the living God.

You know that your father David and his men are hard fighters and that they are as fierce as a mother bear robbed of her cubs. Your father is an experienced soldier and does not stay with his men at night.

Then even the bravest men, as fearless as lions, will be afraid because everyone in Israel knows that your father is a great soldier and that his men are hard fighters.

But he did it in order to straighten out this whole matter. Your Majesty is as wise as the angel of God and knows everything that happens."

As Samuel grew up, the LORD was with him and made come true everything that Samuel said.

When these things happen, do whatever God leads you to do.

Saul was afraid of David because the LORD was with David but had abandoned him.

and was successful in all he did, because the LORD was with him.

The LORD was with Joseph and made him successful. He lived in the house of his Egyptian master,

The jailer did not have to look after anything for which Joseph was responsible, because the LORD was with Joseph and made him succeed in everything he did.
