Then the LORD God took some soil from the ground and formed a man out of it; he breathed life-giving breath into his nostrils and the man began to live.

God's spirit made me and gave me life.

The LORD created the heavens by his command, the sun, moon, and stars by his spoken word.

God said to me, "Mortal man, prophesy to the wind. Tell the wind that the Sovereign LORD commands it to come from every direction, to breathe into these dead bodies, and to bring them back to life."

I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever.

"The Helper will come---the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God and who comes from the Father. I will send him to you from the Father, and he will speak about me.

But I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I go away, because if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I do go away, then I will send him to you.

They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Peter said to them, "Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit.

Peter, full of the Holy Spirit, answered them, "Leaders of the people and elders:

When they arrived, they prayed for the believers that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

"These people have received the Holy Spirit, just as we also did. Can anyone, then, stop them from being baptized with water?"

and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?" "We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit," they answered.

Tell me this one thing: did you receive God's Spirit by doing what the Law requires or by hearing the gospel and believing it?
