When Jesus was alone, some of those who had heard him came to him with the twelve disciples and asked him to explain the parables.
Mark 7:17-23

When he left the crowd and went into the house, his disciples asked him to explain this saying.

"You are no more intelligent than the others," Jesus said to them. "Don't you understand? Nothing that goes into you from the outside can really make you unclean,
19
because it does not go into your heart but into your stomach and then goes on out of the body." (In saying this, Jesus declared that all foods are fit to be eaten.)

And he went on to say, "It is what comes out of you that makes you unclean.
21
For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill,
22
commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly---

all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean."
Matthew 13:36-43

When Jesus had left the crowd and gone indoors, his disciples came to him and said, "Tell us what the parable about the weeds in the field means."
37
Jesus answered, "The man who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man;
38
the field is the world; the good seed is the people who belong to the Kingdom; the weeds are the people who belong to the Evil One;
39
and the enemy who sowed the weeds is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvest workers are angels.
40
Just as the weeds are gathered up and burned in the fire, so the same thing will happen at the end of the age:

the Son of Man will send out his angels to gather up out of his Kingdom all those who cause people to sin and all others who do evil things,
42
and they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where they will cry and gnash their teeth.

Then God's people will shine like the sun in their Father's Kingdom. Listen, then, if you have ears!
Matthew 15:15-20

Peter spoke up, "Explain this saying to us."

Jesus said to them, "You are still no more intelligent than the others.
17
Don't you understand? Anything that goes into your mouth goes into your stomach and then on out of your body.
18
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean.
19
For from your heart come the evil ideas which lead you to kill, commit adultery, and do other immoral things; to rob, lie, and slander others.
20
These are the things that make you unclean. But to eat without washing your hands as they say you should---this doesn't make you unclean."
