Then the Devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, the Holy City, set him on the highest point of the Temple,

Then the Devil took him up and showed him in a second all the kingdoms of the world.

All this will be yours, then, if you worship me."

Will you gain anything if you win the whole world but lose your life? Of course not! There is nothing you can give to regain your life.

For six whole months he made a show of the riches of the imperial court with all its splendor and majesty.

He boasted to them about how rich he was, how many sons he had, how the king had promoted him to high office, and how much more important he was than any of the king's other officials.

Don't be upset when someone becomes rich, when his wealth grows even greater;

he cannot take it with him when he dies; his wealth will not go with him to the grave.

he said, "Look how great Babylon is! I built it as my capital city to display my power and might, my glory and majesty."

It was faith that made Moses, when he had grown up, refuse to be called the son of the king's daughter.

He reckoned that to suffer scorn for the Messiah was worth far more than all the treasures of Egypt, for he kept his eyes on the future reward.

As the scripture says, "All human beings are like grass, and all their glory is like wild flowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall,

Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father.

Everything that belongs to the world---what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of---none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world.

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The power to rule over the world belongs now to our Lord and his Messiah, and he will rule forever and ever!"
