One of them ran up at once, took a sponge, soaked it in cheap wine, put it on the end of a stick, and tried to make him drink it.

When I was hungry, they gave me poison; when I was thirsty, they offered me vinegar.

There they tried to give him wine mixed with a drug called myrrh, but Jesus would not drink it.

Jesus knew that by now everything had been completed; and in order to make the scripture come true, he said, "I am thirsty."

Jesus drank the wine and said, "It is finished!" Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
