They will say, "Prepare to attack Jerusalem! Get ready! We'll attack at noon!" But then they will say, "It's too late, the day is almost over, and the evening shadows are growing long.

We'll attack by night; we'll destroy the city's fortresses."

The LORD Almighty has ordered these kings to cut down trees and build mounds in order to besiege Jerusalem. He has said, "I will punish this city because it is full of oppression.
Jeremiah 25:9
'I am going to send for all the peoples from the north and for my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia. I am going to bring them to fight against Judah and its inhabitants and against all the neighboring nations. This happened at the LORD's command, in order to banish the people of Judah from his sight because of all the sins that King Manasseh had committed,

and especially because of all the innocent people he had killed. The LORD could not forgive Manasseh for that.

This is a message about Babylon, which Isaiah son of Amoz received from God.

On the top of a barren hill raise the battle flag! Shout to the soldiers and raise your arm as the signal for them to attack the gates of the proud city.

The LORD has called out his proud and confident soldiers to fight a holy war and punish those he is angry with.

Listen to the noise on the mountains---the sound of a great crowd of people, the sound of nations and kingdoms gathering. The LORD of Armies is preparing his troops for battle.

They are coming from far-off countries at the ends of the earth. In his anger the LORD is coming to devastate the whole country.

Kill the old men, young men, young women, mothers, and children. But don't touch anyone who has the mark on his forehead. Start here at my Temple." So they began with the leaders who were standing there at the Temple.

Stop taking advantage of aliens, orphans, and widows. Stop killing innocent people in this land. Stop worshiping other gods, for that will destroy you.

If you change, I will let you go on living here in the land which I gave your ancestors as a permanent possession.

You steal, murder, commit adultery, tell lies under oath, offer sacrifices to Baal, and worship gods that you had not known before.

You do these things I hate, and then you come and stand in my presence, in my own Temple, and say, 'We are safe!'

Do you think that my Temple is a hiding place for robbers? I have seen what you are doing.

Go to Shiloh, the first place where I chose to be worshiped, and see what I did to it because of the sins of my people Israel.
