"All right," the LORD said to Satan, "everything he has is in your power, but you must not hurt Job himself." So Satan left.

But now suppose you hurt his body---he will curse you to your face!"

The LORD is angry with his people and has stretched out his hand to punish them. The mountains will shake, and the bodies of those who die will be left in the streets like rubbish. Yet even then the LORD's anger will not be ended, but his hand will still be stretched out to punish.

Now it's your turn to be in trouble, and you are too stunned to face it.

You are my friends! Take pity on me! The hand of God has struck me down.

Abimelech warned all the people: "Anyone who mistreats this man or his wife will be put to death."

"Don't harm my chosen servants; do not touch my prophets."

Anyone who strikes you strikes what is most precious to me." So the LORD Almighty sent me with this message for the nations that had plundered his people:

The morning after each feast, Job would get up early and offer sacrifices for each of his children in order to purify them. He always did this because he thought that one of them might have sinned by insulting God unintentionally.

He said, "I was born with nothing, and I will die with nothing. The LORD gave, and now he has taken away. May his name be praised!"

His wife said to him, "You are still as faithful as ever, aren't you? Why don't you curse God and die?"

The people will wander through the land, discouraged and hungry. In their hunger and their anger they will curse their king and their God. They may look up to the sky

"You have said terrible things about me," says the LORD. "But you ask, 'What have we said about you?'

You have said, 'It's useless to serve God. What's the use of doing what he says or of trying to show the LORD Almighty that we are sorry for what we have done?

They were burned by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God, who has authority over these plagues. But they would not turn from their sins and praise his greatness.

and they cursed the God of heaven for their pains and sores. But they did not turn from their evil ways.

Huge hailstones, each weighing as much as a hundred pounds, fell from the sky on people, who cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because it was such a terrible plague.
