"I am now making my covenant with you and with your descendants,

With these words I make my covenant with you: I promise that never again will all living beings be destroyed by a flood; never again will a flood destroy the earth.

"I make this covenant with you: I promise that you will be the ancestor of many nations.

"I will keep my promise to you and to your descendants in future generations as an everlasting covenant. I will be your God and the God of your descendants.

But I will keep my covenant with your son Isaac, who will be born to Sarah about this time next year."

The LORD said to Noah, "Go into the boat with your whole family; I have found that you are the only one in all the world who does what is right.

He and his wife, and his sons and their wives, went into the boat to escape the flood.

On that same day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives.

Go into your houses, my people, and shut the door behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until God's anger is over.

It was faith that made Noah hear God's warnings about things in the future that he could not see. He obeyed God and built a boat in which he and his family were saved. As a result, the world was condemned, and Noah received from God the righteousness that comes by faith.

These were the spirits of those who had not obeyed God when he waited patiently during the days that Noah was building his boat. The few people in the boat---eight in all---were saved by the water,

God did not spare the ancient world, but brought the flood on the world of godless people; the only ones he saved were Noah, who preached righteousness, and seven other people.
