'Lord,' I answered, 'they know very well that I went to the synagogues and arrested and beat those who believe in you.

Watch out, for there will be those who will arrest you and take you to court, and they will whip you in the synagogues.

"You yourselves must watch out. You will be arrested and taken to court. You will be beaten in the synagogues; you will stand before rulers and kings for my sake to tell them the Good News.

Before all these things take place, however, you will be arrested and persecuted; you will be handed over to be tried in synagogues and be put in prison; you will be brought before kings and rulers for my sake.

When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy; they disputed what Paul was saying and insulted him.

When they opposed him and said evil things about him, he protested by shaking the dust from his clothes and saying to them, "If you are lost, you yourselves must take the blame for it! I am not responsible. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."

"I assure you that people can be forgiven all their sins and all the evil things they may say.

Anyone who disobeys the Law of Moses is put to death without any mercy when judged guilty from the evidence of two or more witnesses.

What, then, of those who despise the Son of God? who treat as a cheap thing the blood of God's covenant which purified them from sin? who insult the Spirit of grace? Just think how much worse is the punishment they will deserve!

They are the ones who speak evil of that good name which has been given to you.

As Paul defended himself in this way, Festus shouted at him, "You are mad, Paul! Your great learning is driving you mad!"

Paul answered, "I am not mad, Your Excellency! I am speaking the sober truth.

One fate comes to all alike, and this is as wrong as anything that happens in this world. As long as people live, their minds are full of evil and madness, and suddenly they die.

They were filled with rage and began to discuss among themselves what they could do to Jesus.

At last he came to his senses and said, 'All my father's hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve!

and was rebuked for his sin. His donkey spoke with a human voice and stopped the prophet's insane action.
