The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people.

"I am telling you the truth," Jesus said. "What Moses gave you was not the bread from heaven; it is my Father who gives you the real bread from heaven.

Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.

"I am the real vine, and my Father is the gardener.

The LORD said to me, "I have a greater task for you, my servant. Not only will you restore to greatness the people of Israel who have survived, but I will also make you a light to the nations--- so that all the world may be saved."

but if your eyes are no good, your body will be in darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how terribly dark it will be!

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us.

However, the command I now write you is new, because its truth is seen in Christ and also in you. For the darkness is passing away, and the real light is already shining.

We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we know the true God. We live in union with the true God---in union with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and this is eternal life.

who came to tell people about the light, so that all should hear the message and believe.

There was much whispering about him in the crowd. "He is a good man," some people said. "No," others said, "he fools the people."

I have come into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.

You are to answer them, "Listen to what the LORD is teaching you! Don't listen to mediums---what they tell you cannot keep trouble away."

But you, friends, are not in the darkness, and the Day should not take you by surprise like a thief.

So then, we should not be sleeping like the others; we should be awake and sober.
