Have reverence for the LORD, my child, and honor the king. Have nothing to do with people who rebel against them;

"Of course," Peter answered. When Peter went into the house, Jesus spoke up first, "Simon, what is your opinion? Who pays duties or taxes to the kings of this world? The citizens of the country or the foreigners?"

But we don't want to offend these people. So go to the lake and drop in a line. Pull up the first fish you hook, and in its mouth you will find a coin worth enough for my Temple tax and yours. Take it and pay them our taxes."

Pay, then, what you owe them; pay them your personal and property taxes, and show respect and honor for them all.

Respect everyone, love other believers, honor God, and respect the Emperor.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'

Pay close attention, son, and let my life be your example.

So when you make a promise to God, keep it as quickly as possible. He has no use for a fool. Do what you promise to do.

Better not to promise at all than to make a promise and not keep it.

The LORD Almighty says to the priests, "Children honor their parents, and servants honor their masters. I am your father---why don't you honor me? I am your master---why don't you respect me? You despise me, and yet you ask, 'How have we despised you?'

But Peter and John answered them, "You yourselves judge which is right in God's sight---to obey you or to obey God.

For we cannot stop speaking of what we ourselves have seen and heard."

Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.

So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.

Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God;

he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.

We are ruled by the love of Christ, now that we recognize that one man died for everyone, which means that they all share in his death.

He died for all, so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but only for him who died and was raised to life for their sake.

He upsets the plans of cunning people, and traps the wise in their own schemes, so that nothing they do succeeds;

When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.

When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

No one was able to give Jesus any answer, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

But if everyone is proclaiming God's message when some unbelievers or ordinary people come in, they will be convinced of their sin by what they hear. They will be judged by all they hear,

their secret thoughts will be brought into the open, and they will bow down and worship God, confessing, "Truly God is here among you!"
