Moses went on up the mountain into the cloud. There he stayed for forty days and nights.

Moses stayed there with the LORD forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant---the Ten Commandments.

Yes, after those forty days and nights the LORD gave me the two stone tablets on which he had written the covenant.

Then once again I lay face downward in the LORD's presence for forty days and nights and did not eat or drink anything. I did this because you had sinned against the LORD and had made him angry.

This means that he had to become like his people in every way, in order to be their faithful and merciful High Priest in his service to God, so that the people's sins would be forgiven.

And now he can help those who are tempted, because he himself was tempted and suffered.

Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin.

He lay down under the tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said, "Wake up and eat."

The LORD's angel returned and woke him up a second time, saying, "Get up and eat, or the trip will be too much for you."

Then the Devil left Jesus; and angels came and helped him.

Don't you know that I could call on my Father for help, and at once he would send me more than twelve armies of angels?

No one can deny how great is the secret of our religion: He appeared in human form, was shown to be right by the Spirit, and was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, and was taken up to heaven.
