At once the Spirit made him go into the desert,

where he stayed forty days, being tempted by Satan. Wild animals were there also, but angels came and helped him.

"The right time has come," he said, "and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from your sins and believe the Good News!"

Jesus returned from the Jordan full of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert,

The Devil said to him, "If you are God's Son, order this stone to turn into bread."

Then the Devil took him up and showed him in a second all the kingdoms of the world.

All this will be yours, then, if you worship me."

Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem and set him on the highest point of the Temple, and said to him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down from here.

It also says, 'They will hold you up with their hands so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.' "

When the Devil finished tempting Jesus in every way, he left him for a while.

Those who are led by God's Spirit are God's children.

What if the spirit of the LORD carries you off to some unknown place as soon as I leave? Then, when I tell Ahab that you are here and he can't find you, he will put me to death. Remember that I have been a devout worshiper of the LORD ever since I was a boy.

and said, "There are fifty of us here, all strong men. Let us go and look for your master. Maybe the spirit of the LORD has carried him away and left him on some mountain or in some valley." "No, you must not go," Elisha answered.

God's spirit lifted me up and took me to the east gate of the Temple. There near the gate I saw twenty-five men, including Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, two leaders of the nation.

In the vision the spirit of God lifted me up and brought me back to the exiles in Babylonia. Then the vision faded,

In a vision God took me to the land of Israel and put me on a high mountain. I saw in front of me a group of buildings that looked like a city.

The LORD's spirit lifted me up and took me into the inner courtyard, where I saw that the Temple was filled with the glory of the LORD.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away. The official did not see him again, but continued on his way, full of joy.

I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's heel."

I cannot talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me,

And now he can help those who are tempted, because he himself was tempted and suffered.

Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin.

Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.
