Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go and see the king. I have made him and his officials stubborn, in order that I may perform these miracles among them

and in order that you may be able to tell your children and grandchildren how I made fools of the Egyptians when I performed the miracles. All of you will know that I am the LORD."

In the future, when your son asks what this observance means, you will answer him, 'By using great power the LORD brought us out of Egypt, the place where we were slaves.

Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.

These stones will remind the people of what the LORD has done. In the future, when your children ask what these stones mean to you,

you will tell them that the water of the Jordan stopped flowing when the LORD's Covenant Box crossed the river. These stones will always remind the people of Israel of what happened here."

And he said to the people of Israel, "In the future, when your children ask you what these stones mean,

you will tell them about the time when Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.

With our own ears we have heard it, O God--- our ancestors have told us about it, about the great things you did in their time, in the days of long ago:

Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not abandon me, O God! Be with me while I proclaim your power and might to all generations to come.

He gave laws to the people of Israel and commandments to the descendants of Jacob. He instructed our ancestors to teach his laws to their children,

In this way they also will put their trust in God and not forget what he has done, but always obey his commandments.

What you have done will be praised from one generation to the next; they will proclaim your mighty acts.

It is the living who praise you, As I praise you now. Parents tell their children how faithful you are.
