"On that night I will go through the land of Egypt, killing every first-born male, both human and animal, and punishing all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.

Moses then said to the king, "The LORD says, 'At about midnight I will go through Egypt,

When the king of Egypt was stubborn and refused to let us go, the LORD killed every first-born male in the land of Egypt, both human and animal. That is why we sacrifice every first-born male animal to the LORD, but buy back our first-born sons.

We may suddenly die at night. God strikes us down and we perish; he kills the mighty with no effort at all.

For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come as a thief comes at night.

When people say, "Everything is quiet and safe," then suddenly destruction will hit them! It will come as suddenly as the pains that come upon a woman in labor, and people will not escape.

and every first-born son in Egypt will die, from the king's son, who is heir to the throne, to the son of the slave woman who grinds grain. The first-born of all the cattle will die also.

God will crowd kings together like prisoners in a pit. He will shut them in prison until the time of their punishment comes.

Those who are prisoners will soon be set free; they will live a long life and have all the food they need.

So they took me and let me down by ropes into Prince Malchiah's well, which was in the palace courtyard. There was no water in the well, only mud, and I sank down in it.
