For six whole months he made a show of the riches of the imperial court with all its splendor and majesty.

Jacob heard that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father. He got all his wealth from what our father owned."

I have never trusted in riches

or taken pride in my wealth.

by evil people who trust in their riches and boast of their great wealth.

Don't be upset when someone becomes rich, when his wealth grows even greater;

he cannot take it with him when he dies; his wealth will not go with him to the grave.

He boasts, "Every one of my commanders is a king!

The LORD says, "The wise should not boast of their wisdom, nor the strong of their strength, nor the rich of their wealth.

If any want to boast, they should boast that they know and understand me, because my love is constant, and I do what is just and right. These are the things that please me. I, the LORD, have spoken."

he said, "Look how great Babylon is! I built it as my capital city to display my power and might, my glory and majesty."

The disciples were shocked at these words, but Jesus went on to say, "My children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God!

Then I will say to myself, Lucky man! You have all the good things you need for many years. Take life easy, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself !'

But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself ? ' "

Command those who are rich in the things of this life not to be proud, but to place their hope, not in such an uncertain thing as riches, but in God, who generously gives us everything for our enjoyment.

LORD, I can see their children being hunted down and killed.
