Dear Friends,
We have had a productive trip so far, I will fill in some of the information that Dad did not cover concerning other campuses.
Tuesday, February 12th, we preached at UCLA. This campus has a very large Jewish community. Some of whom are of the Dr. Laura caliber. In fact, though every Christian I talked
to disagreed with our preaching, I had three or four Jews come and say they really appreciated what we were doing. After preaching here I think I need to do more studying of refuting Judaism.
Wednesday we preached at Riverside. We have several encounters with the Muslims. Most Muslims you meet try to say that Christianity and Islam are compatible, but not these.
They were very anti-Christian and one tried to steal our Koran. He supposedly thought we were dishonoring it and his intentions were pure. The fact that he tried to steal our cell phone later
made me wonder.
We preached at Cal. State Fullerton on Thursday the 14th. We had a good deal of trouble getting a crowd at first. The first hour we had to compete with a rock band. I finally
got a crowd preaching against abortion when one guy came up to me claiming his girlfriend was pregnant and that they were planning on having an abortion. I think and certainly hope that he
was lying. Our confrontation did get us a small crowd which brought out the police. They checked our ID and left assuring us that we were in the free speech area. Homosexuality became an issue
and I was able to convince a United Methodist that homosexuality was in fact wrong.
Mom flew in Tuesday the 19th where we preached at UCSD. Steven Keeler (who some of you will know) met us out there. He is very knowledgeable on the Koran; having read it 5
to 7 times, much to Muslims dismay, as that is more than many of them have read it.
Wednesday the 20th we returned to Riverside. There is nothing worse then the security patrol who ride around on their bicycles and have absolutely no power; but try to exercise
any they can. He rode by and seeing Mom preaching he called the campus police. We didn't even have a crowd yet, but from his report you would have thought there was a mob out there. I was
able to have a productive conversation with a Muslim. I came no where near convincing him of Christianity, but I do believe that I got him thinking.
Monday and Tuesday Feb. 25th and 26th and Thursday the 28th, we preached at San Diego State. We had a lot of support from the campus Christians; a rare blessing. We had large
crowds and what was likely some of our most productive meetings.
Friday we preached at UCSD. We were joined by Mark Diener Jason Storms and Sarah Mitchel. We did not get a crowd the first two class breaks. Maybe it was because of our competition.
On one side of us were the Girl Scouts with their cookies, and on the other the entire basketball team giving out free ice cream and begging people to come out to their games.( I guess they
didn't have a very good team;-)
We got a crowd at the third break. I had a good conversation about contradictions in the Bible. Some student yelled out "what about all the contradictions in the Bible?" I
asked him to name one, which of course he couldn't do. Well, then they brought up slavery and polygamy. I explained to them that though the Bible allowed polygamy, in almost every case recorded
it caused sorrow and fighting, some of which is still going on today between the Arabs and the Jews. This I thought was well received by many people in the crowd.
Next week we are headed to Chico and Davis. So far we have had wonderful meetings pray this will continue.
God Bless you all In Christ,
Evangeline
