New Mexico State: Sister Pat invited two young homeless boys, who were hanging around campus, for dinner.  As I ate several Christians continued to object to my approach and holiness message, ignoring the two lost souls at the end of the table.  When they went to get a second helping of food, Sister Pat rebuked the hypocrites, “You students are in your own bubble; you need to break out of it and reach out to the lost.  These two homeless boys do not have a clue concerning salvation and all you can do is argue with Brother Jed and demonstrate no concern for their souls.” Evidently, she did put a few of them under conviction for they began to witness to these boys and even invited them to use the showers in their rooms.  We conversed around the table until after 7 PM.

Congregations of the Dead

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.  Proverbs 21:16

I have preached

righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.  Psalm 40:9

Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men   Psalm 58:1?

Oklahoma University-Norman: Students ask for a picture with Bro. Jed after the preaching.  Don’t let them deceive you, many of these sweet faces had been heckling.  This was Bro. Jed’s next to last campus at the end of three months on the Gospel Road.  This letter gives just a few of the highlights from his last six weeks of

ministry to the wayward congregations of

university students.

Two fellows stretched out a large banner in front of me complaining about our “hate speech.”  They were trying to block me out from the crowd with their banner; so I had to patiently work around that sign until the police made them put the banner against the wall.  The sign served as a good back drop for our ministry for the rest of the afternoon.  Of course, we use hate speech.  God hates sin; we hate sin.  People who love God, hate sin and speak out strongly against it.    Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.  Heb. 1:9

Hate Speech

University of California —San Marcos

University of Arizona: Someone came up behind me and spread my shirt with paint.  Some in the crowd thought that it was funny; but throughout the day several students apologized for the assailant’s behavior.  The police made an investigation; but I don’t think they caught the culprit.  I preached throughout the afternoon with what appeared to be blood on my shirt, which of itself was an illustrative sermon.  When we preach it is as if we are setting up a cross in the middle of campus and the mob at the foot of the cross mock for six hours.  But usually there will be a few centurions, who will see beyond the mob’s blindness (Lk 23:47).  Then there are those who are acquainted with Jesus, but who stand “afar off” (Lk 23:49),  who another day may take up their cross and “eat of his flesh and drink of his blood”(John 6).

Quotes From the Our Congregations

“You are going to Hell, because you are condemning us to Hell,” one of the students yelled at Cindy at Calif. State San Marcos.

Thou shalt not judge, is one of the Ten Commandments,” random student.

“If you are not a sinner, I don’t see how you can call yourself a Christian,”  random student 2.

“The whole department is out here,” a CSUSM policeman remarked to another officer.

“I was a student and a backslidden Baptist when I heard you at Arizona State in 1978.  You woke me up,” testified Tim, whose son now attends ASU.

“Get the F- - - off our campus,” an University of Arizona student exhibits his language arts skills.

“Shut UP! We want to hear brother Jed. You are ruining the show,”  UA sinner quiets a heckler.

“What are we going to do now that you are leaving campus?”—a regular at ASU.

“I don’t agree with what you have to say; but I enjoy your  preaching,” commented another as we were leaving UA.

“The majority of Christians on Oklahoma State I would consider to be on the “love bug” Gospel, they don't understand why hellfire and brimstone preaching is needed.  I thought your balance between the two was amazing. In fact I have never seen such a good balance between the two. I plan on preaching on campus next week.”  — Matthew Payne, a student.

Who Has Authorized Brother Jed?

I was raised, baptized and confirmed in Centenary UMC, a Gothic Cathedral, which was built at the gateway of my alma mater Indiana State University.  Yet, I remained dead in my trespasses and sins all of those years.  My mind had been destroyed by the vain philosophies of this world propagated by the universities.  Gloriously, I was raised from the dead and my mind was renewed in 1972 A.D., when the gospel was declared unto me on a street corner; “when it pleased God . . . to reveal his Son in me,  that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood”(Gal 1:16).    But I walked across the street onto the ISU campus.  I cried aloud, I spared not, I lifted up my voice like a trumpet and I showed students and professors their sins and transgressions as the Holy Spirit had shown me my sins (Isa 58:1).    God called me independently of a particular ecclesiastical organization.  Who then has confirmed my calling to the heathen on university campuses?  You have, my beloved and faithful supporters, with whom I communicate through these letters.  Your financial support not only enables me to travel and support a family; but whenever I receive an offering in the mail, it is my encouragement to continue my mission.

There are several churches from which I receive support, thus affirming my call.  These churches give me a pulpit; so that I might equip and embolden the saints to witness to the Righteousness of God.  There are close friends with whom I have had blessed fellowship over the years and with whom I have contact in my travels and provide hospitality on the road.  Some of these people date back over three decades to the beginning of my mission.  There are also a few students and professors who have become supporters.

Then there are those who give regularly and generously that I do not have personal contact; but are familiar with my ministry either directly or indirectly.  I am overwhelmed at times to receive large and small gifts from people whom I do not know how they became involved in this ministry.  I so appreciate your trust in my faithfulness.

Each one of the above categories of partners is precious to me and an affirmation that God is working through them to me, my family and the students.  However, one last class of givers is very special to me and is a particular encouragement.  These are ones that know me from my youth, who knew me through my rebellious years, who knew my parents.  This group is passing from the scene unto their eternal reward.  One was one of my high school teachers, another is a high school classmate, another is one of my professors from my college days, and another was a beloved life time family friend.

Some of your gifts are large and some of them are small; but each one is received with joy.  When I am on the road, Cindy gives me regular reports as to the gifts we have received through the postal service or through pay pal.  Sometimes, your gifts have a note of appreciation or prayer requests, which are read and sometimes reread.  I consider your gifts and notes to be words beforehand of the words I hope to hear one day,

“Well, done thy good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.”

The month of April will be spent on campuses in Missouri, the highlight of which will be our annual open house and meal for students on April 24th.   My plan is to  preach to campus congregations in Ohio, Oregon and Washington through the first week of June.  Your prayers and support coupled with the power of the Holy Spirit helps me take the massage of Resurrected Life to this dead generation.  Thank you.   Bro Jed

New Mexico State—Darth Vader and Storm Trooper called in to stop the Jedi. They claimed to be Christians .  “God is at war with evil and has been since the rebellion of Lucifer.  The battleground is your mind.  Satan has captivated you with lust, perversion, and false ideas such as multi-culturalism, pluralism, socialism, secularism, the list is virtually endless.  I am on a crusade to set you free from sin.  My weapon is the Truth.  Jesus has won the victory for us over our enemies on the Cross.  Surrender to your Maker; or you will be cast into Hell on Judgment Day.  The saints of God have nothing in common with sinners.  You rejoice in your iniquity; we rejoice in the Lord.  You fear your circumstances and death; we fear a furious God.  Those of you who still name the name of Christ need to stop fraternizing with the enemy and stand with God against sin.”

Sister Pat Draws The Congregation

Sister Pat’s style of gathering a crowd is unique.  Because her voice is not as strong as Cindy's or mine, Pat likes to start about 15 minutes before the class break, just as traffic is beginning to move.  She will ask a passerby:

“Are you a Christian?”

Female Student: “Yes.”

Sister Pat: “Do you have a boy friend?”

Student: “Yes.”

Sister Pat:  “Are you hugging and kissing?”

Student:  “Yes.”

Sister Pat:  “Why are you doing that?

Student: “It feels good.”

Sister Pat:  “Are you a virgin?”

Student:  “It is none of your business.”

Sister Pat:  “That

answers my question.”

Sister Pat:  “Do your parents know that you are having sex?

Student: “Yes.”

Sister Pat: “What do they think about you having sex?”

Student: “They are OK with it.”

Sister Pat:  “Don’t your parents love you?”

One student after another bites the bait and she soon has a  small group.   When the classes break, students are passing by the hundreds, many want to know why a group is gathered around this 78-year-old woman. Within minutes she has a huge congregation of the dead who begin confessing all manner of sin to her without any outward signs of shame.
